In the history of League of Legends, there have been numerous unbelievable “comebacks” that have thrilled the audience. A prime example is the 10k gold “comeback” by SKT T1 against Edward Gaming during the group stage of the World Championship 2017. At a point where it seemed nearly impossible to recover, SKT T1 pulled off a miracle with Faker’s Orianna and Wolf’s Rakan, achieving the unimaginable.
It is important to note that at that time, League of Legends did not have the Targeted Gold Bounty mechanic. This meant SKT T1 had to fight for every advantage, no matter how small, to ultimately secure victory after about 45 minutes of play.
However, recently, G2 Esports has turned SKT T1’s legendary “comeback” into “the past”. Specifically, in their match against Misfit Gaming during week 7 of the LEC Spring 2022 group stage, G2 quickly gained numerous advantages from towers and kills. In fact, the “national circus” even pushed all the way to the opponent’s Nexus. At this point, even the most optimistic fans of MSF might have thought about their team’s defeat and turned off their devices.

But true to its nature as a “circus”. Instead of focusing on quickly pushing the base to finish the match like other teams, G2 wanted to “farm KPI” kills. And in their bloodthirsty frenzy, the G2 players allowed MSF to make a comeback. Neon’s Zeri and Vetheo’s Akali got kills, along with Hirit’s “200 years” Gwen and especially the extremely annoying support Yuumi, MSF gradually reclaimed their advantages.
By the time G2 members came to their senses, it was too late. Zeri and Akali were too fed and hard to kill with Yuumi’s continuous support. Thus, G2 gradually lost all their advantages. G2’s subsequent attempts to “sneak push” were futile. And after nearly 39 minutes of play, MSF secured victory, even ahead by over 2k gold compared to G2.
This might be one of the most unbelievable comebacks in League of Legends history. Nobody understands why G2 lost and how MSF could win, but in the end, reality unfolded in the most unexpected way. And one could say, with this comeback by G2, SKT T1’s comeback from years ago seems less dramatic in comparison.
