One of the most attractive factors of League of Legends is undoubtedly the Ranking System. However, even within this system, there are quite a few issues that have existed since the early days of League of Legends. In particular, alongside issues like game sabotage or “smurfing”… Riot has also made changes that have caused significant problems in the Ranking mode. The most recent case is the addition of the Emerald rank, which has led to complaints from the gaming community as game sabotages have become more frequent and concentrated in Riot’s new rank tier.

Recently, another issue has been discovered that has left the League of Legends community in shock. According to a player’s report: “A few weeks ago, I introduced one of my friends to League of Legends, and they just reached level 30, so we played quite a bit of flexible ranked matches, as a group of 2 or 3 people ‘stacking’ together. One thing we noticed was that even though this was my friend’s first time playing League of Legends, they were ranked Gold 1 because that is the current ‘average rank’.”

Notably, this player’s sharing received a lot of agreement from many other players who have encountered similar situations. Many opinions argue that it might be because Riot added another rank tier (the Emerald rank), which has caused ranks from Gold and below to become too basic. Of course, if the Silver rank and below are considered too low, then for some individuals with certain basic skills, Riot would place them in the Gold rank.

However, this can also be explained in a positive light: Riot wants new players to avoid experiencing “elo hell” – a place where they easily encounter game sabotage or players with negative attitudes, as well as encourage players to actively engage with the game. After all, players ranked Gold and above can meet truly skilled gamers who will play positively. This way, new players will have a reason to continue experiencing League of Legends.

However, it is also possible that some players have a certain skill level, and even if they are just getting acquainted, they can still perform well and achieve a high rank. But in any case, the situation where players could be placed in the wrong rank relative to their skill level is being noted by many gamers while Riot has yet to make any specific statements.
