Recently, Riot released patch 13.13 with numerous changes for both Summoner’s Rift and Teamfight Tactics (TFT) Season 9. Notably, there were changes in the gameplay mode TFT. One of the compositions that was most affected is the 6 Guardian. This composition was so powerful that Riot had to make last-minute adjustments to end this imbalance.
However, with sturdy compositions like Guardian being nerfed, it opens the door for damage-rich compositions to rise. One such composition, which has proven quite effective at a low cost, is the pairing of Zed – Katarina in the 4 Void composition.
Overview and Operation
This composition is rich in damage and each unit’s versatility is immense. Not to mention, both Katarina and Zed have multi-target damage, which helps the player “clean up” opponents quickly. Furthermore, both units possess strong attack traits (Ionia, Void, Butcher, Noxus), so as long as there are sufficiently strong tanks, it can operate effectively.
With Zed’s low cost, players can combine 3 Butchers with Zed, Kayle, and Kled in the early game. Depending on the match, you can choose Kayle as the main carry and keep items for Katarina or Gwen. Zed needs the right items and players will need to add Swain or Irelia to enhance defense.
Moving into the mid-game, if there are not at least 2 Zed 2-star by round 3, consider changing the composition. Additionally, players also need a 2-star Katarina to include in the team. Viego or Ekko are merely system activators and do not need to be brought into the match too early. Prioritize defense with Guardian units (Targon, Shen), stronger Butchers (Gwen), or at least Sett to activate Ionia for Zed.
By the late game, players can reach level 8 or 9. The optimal composition at level 8 includes: Zed – Katarina – Irelia – Shen – Swain – Kled – Taric – Gwen. If you can level up to 9, Kai’Sa, Yasuo, or Azir will be effective additions to the composition. Legendary champions to choose for this composition are Aurelion Sol (providing experience) or Ornn (providing items).
Conclusion
This composition has the downside of requiring many items and forcing players to upgrade the two main carries to their highest levels. However, this will be a composition that is incredibly rich in damage but not lacking in defensive capabilities if executed well. Additionally, with less competition, Zed – Katarina will allow players to rank up effectively without worrying about overlap in compositions.
