The power of Family in TFT Season 13 is being misunderstood
After the conclusion of the TFT World Championship Season 12, information about Season 13 of “Teamfight Tactics” has been announced, and the Family trait has received a lot of attention. The reason is quite understandable as this trait features beloved characters from the show Arcane (the theme of TFT Season 13) like Violet, Powder, and Vander. Moreover, the effect of reaching 5 Family allows players to perform “heists” after each round. As a result, many players believe that Family will be a different version of the Thief or Wealth God from the past with a “resource cheating” playstyle.

However, as soon as TFT Season 13 was available on the PBE server, the actual playstyle of Family was uncovered, leaving many players confused. The reason lies in the fact that the Family trait only has 3 champions, and to reach the 5-character threshold, players need to possess 2 of this trait’s emblems. This is clearly something nearly impossible, so it isn’t considered the main playstyle of Family. Instead, with the ability to reduce a champion’s maximum energy and increase their durability and attack speed, Family possesses a remarkably impressive combat strength.
Building a Family composition in TFT Season 13
With both Powder and Violet costing 1 gold, the primary approach for players using Family will be a reroll strategy. Therefore, players should avoid buying experience at the beginning to maximize the chances of acquiring both Powder and Violet. Among them, Powder should be prioritized as this champion has quite strong area-of-effect damage capabilities. Acquiring a 3-star unit will ensure the team’s overall damage output.

Moving into the mid-game, players should aim to reach level 6 and continue to reroll to upgrade Vander to 3 stars. In case many Camille are acquired, she is also an incredibly strong and worthwhile investment in the mid-game. Additionally, Scar (a 3-cost champion with the Surveillance trait) will be an excellent addition to make the composition more resilient and provide extremely useful crowd control.

Given the nature of the reroll composition, players using the Family trait will find it challenging to accumulate much gold after reaching level 8. Therefore, the most realistic goal will be to add Ekko and Smeech to the composition to complete the 4 Ambush threshold. This will significantly enhance the damage of both Camille and Powder at the end of the game when the 4 Ambush trait provides a considerable amount of damage and critical strike chance.

Some notes on building the composition
Regarding Powder’s items, the Spear of Shojin is a must-have to increase this unit’s ability to cast spells more frequently. Items that increase AP like the Sorcerer’s Hat, Gemstone Gloves, and Celestial Staff… will be crafted by players for the remaining 2 item slots depending on the situation of the match. For Camille, Bloodthirster and Giant Slayer will be top choices for this unit. Additionally, the Cloak of Shadows is also a great item to help Camille survive and dodge damage in battles.
