Hwei’s Rise in TFT Season 12
Essentially, Artillery champions in TFT Season 12 possess impressive power. However, these champions have been rated quite low due to the relatively long cooldown between casting their abilities and dealing damage. Fortunately, in patch 14.18, Riot Games addressed this issue by reducing the cooldown for a series of Artillery champions, including Hwei.

Furthermore, the damage output at every activation threshold for Artillery has been notably increased. This improvement allows Artillery champions in general, and Hwei in particular, to significantly enhance their damage output. The experts from the LPL super server have combined this with the rolling potential of the Ice trait to achieve promising results.
Building the Artillery – Ice Composition in Season 12
Unlike strategies revolving around Varus or Smolder, players should start with a magic carry in the backline to hold items for Hwei. Players can even leverage the strong 3-Pathway threshold early game to maintain health and accumulate gold. Zoe during this phase will act as the main carry, and players should complement with strong champions like Elise (activating 2 Shapeshifter) or Warwick (activating 2 Vanguard).

One major advantage of starting with Pathway is that players can easily add Ice champions to activate powerful trait thresholds. With additions like Swain, Hwei, or even Ezreal, players will achieve a 3-Pathway, 3-Ice combination alongside Shapeshifter, Artillery, or Vanguard. This provides an excellent condition for players to maintain good health and the necessary gold to reroll and upgrade Hwei or Mordekaiser to 3 stars.

After upgrading the main carry, players should push to level 8 and add Tahm Kench to the composition to achieve the 4 Vanguard threshold. For the backline, versatile options like Bard or Zilean should be targeted to provide both damage and crowd control for the team. Additionally, Ahri will serve as a secondary carry if players have many magic damage items in the late game.

Some Tips When Building the Composition
For a magic carry like Hwei, the Spear of Shojin is a crucial item for effective operation. Additionally, this unit can utilize magic damage items like the Sorcerer’s Hat or Gemstone Gloves effectively. Regarding the Technology Augment, upgrades that help players receive more Champion Copies or save gold when rolling should be prioritized. These will assist players in upgrading Hwei to 3 stars as soon as possible and establish a better “snowball” game state.
