If you’re still wondering how to find the best playstyle when entering the brand new Galaxies of patch 10.9, the practical insights below from Challenger player on the Oceania server – Chatskiiees will help. Essentially, these two new Galaxies have completely opposite playstyles and champion selection methods.

Treasure Island – Every monster drops an item box
With every monster dropping an item box, you can expect to receive 3-4 individual items and about 10 gold after the first 3 rounds of monsters. Moreover, many powerful items will appear later in the match. This means all players will be extremely strong in the game due to the abundance of items, so you must assemble items for your champions early on if you don’t want to lose continuously and find it hard to recover.

Another difference is that compositions relying on large trait-system combos like Dark Star will be weaker because you only have 1-2 carries while the items for them are limited; equipping items to other units is extremely wasteful. This also applies to early-roll compositions (Guardians or Darius – Cosmic) for the same reason.

The strongest compositions in this Galaxy are complete teams with many 4-5 cost champions that can serve as carries like Supers, Brawlers – Cannoneers, Kayle – Chrono… With a normal amount of items, you can only funnel items to 2 or at most 3 carries, however, with the added gold and items from Treasure Island, you can have more powerful carries and a stronger composition than usual.

Starry Sky: Champions of tiers 1/2/3 during the shared draft will be 2 stars
In contrast to Treasure Island, Starry Sky is a paradise for hyper-roll compositions because you can acquire necessary units early at 2 stars from the shared draft. Another special feature of this Galaxy is that the strength of all players’ compositions will significantly increase after the third shared draft round, as immediately having a 3-cost 2-star champion is a massive breakthrough for strength.

This also leads to another situation where compositions relying on a certain 4-cost champion become stronger over time. When everyone is competing for powerful 3-cost units like Jayce, Rumble, Ashe… regardless of whether you pick third or last, there will still be quite a few 4-cost champions for you to choose from. So if you want to play a composition reliant on Kayle, Jhin, Jinx… don’t worry too much when entering this galaxy.

A common playstyle in this galaxy is to build your composition based on the 2-star 2-cost units you acquire in the second shared draft round. The best units to grab at this stage are Lucian and Darius; these are units with great power, suitable for any type of item (which usually occurs randomly in the shared draft) and can be built easily from them.
