In the current patch, the Kayle – Knight composition is becoming a true powerhouse in the late game of Teamfight Tactics. Although this composition has the weakness of requiring many expensive champions, once the necessary units are acquired, the Kayle – Knight team can secure victory quite easily. The first champion we need to mention is Diana, who is considered the strongest counter to this Kayle-centric composition. Typically, Kayle is positioned at a corner of the battlefield and is maximally protected by other units. At this point, Diana’s ability can pull Kayle out of her safe position, leading to this unit being eliminated very quickly.
Moreover, you can counter this composition by pulling Taric to the backline using Diana’s ability. In this situation, Taric won’t be able to gain energy quickly and will use his ability very late. This maximizes the reduction of healing and defensive stats that this composition receives, giving your carries the opportunity to take down the opponent’s key units.
Of course, Diana only serves to disrupt the opponent’s formation. What you need to do is to arrange your carries on the same side as Kayle during your setup. This way, carries like Draven, Mordekaiser, Aphelios… won’t have to move too much while still being able to reach Kayle.
Besides Diana, Mordekaiser is also a very strong piece when facing the Kayle – Knight composition. The reason lies in the fact that Mordekaiser can deal significant damage after using his ability, taking down the Knight frontline very quickly. This will activate the Dragon effect and grant your entire team a large amount of skill damage. At that point, Kayle will no longer be protected and will be eliminated very quickly.
It can be said that any composition using the duo of Diana and Mordekaiser is a strong counter to the Kayle – Knight team. You can build towards 4 Legionnaires – 4 Dragons or combine with the Mage class for high effectiveness. Additionally, the Dragon tribe composition is also a relatively strong option as Ashe and Zyra can continuously control Kayle and Taric.
Regarding counter items, the Spear of Shojin is probably the item you should craft as early as possible. You won’t directly knock up Kayle but rather aim for Taric to reduce the durability of this composition. This is a crucial factor to ensure that your carry’s damage is not wasted and to take down the Kayle – Knight team.
