In Teamfight Tactics, how you position your team has a significant impact on the outcome of each round and each match. With the right arrangement, you can definitely turn the tide by overpowering your opponents with fewer champions. Among them, there are certain champions that need a proper standing position, as standing in the right spot can greatly enhance your team’s strength.
Here is a list of champions that require proper positioning more than they need equipment in Season 3:
Urgot

When it comes to danger, Urgot is definitely the top champion of Season 3. With just 1 or 2 energy items, Urgot can eliminate an enemy from the board as soon as he enters the fight. With the mechanism of using his ability on the furthest target within range, positioning Urgot correctly is extremely important. In patch 10.12, carry champions are very diverse; they can stand in front, behind, or in corners… Therefore, to immediately take down the enemy’s carry, Urgot needs to be in the right position within your lineup.
Miss Fortune

This is one of the champions that can “solo carry” if positioned correctly. Thus, a good standing angle is something Miss Fortune really needs.
Vel’Koz

Often referred to as “dumb squid” by the community because he sometimes uses his ability to hit… only 1 unimportant enemy champion. Therefore, for Vel’Koz to hit the entire enemy team with his skills, this champion should have a reasonable standing position.
Shen

Among the tank champions, Shen is a top-tier staller when facing Gunner or Marksman compositions. Especially with teams that have explosive damage carries like Jinx, Shen is the perfect card to prevent Jinx from activating her passive.
Therefore, if Shen is positioned correctly – right in front of the carries dealing damage with basic attacks, the enemy team will lose a lot of damage and time to take down Shen.
Gnar

Firstly, if positioned correctly, Gnar can knock enemy carries out of their safe spots, dealing damage while interrupting their abilities (if any). Secondly, for Gunner compositions, being knocked out of safe positions reduces their damage significantly (as the Marksman trait increases damage based on the distance to the target). Thirdly, champions knocked back by Gnar often get hit by many area-of-effect skills, becoming controlled and losing health rapidly.
Rakan

With a mechanism that targets the furthest enemy within range + 1 tile, Rakan also needs to be positioned correctly when arranging the lineup. Because if he stands in the right spot, the enemy carries behind will be knocked up immediately during his first ability use, followed by continuous knock-ups if Rakan has the Spear of Shojin.
Blitzcrank

Pulling the furthest target away from himself right at the start of the fight, Blitzcrank is the champion that makes all carries fear standing in corners. Therefore, if positioned correctly, Blitzcrank will immediately pull the enemy carry to him and deliver a blow “without missing a hit”. If necessary, you can also equip Blitzcrank with a Spear of Shojin to disrupt the enemy carry’s support champions.
