Teamfight Tactics: 3 Champions Hit Hardest by Riot’s Nerfs in Upcoming Patch 12.14

A slew of physical carry champions in Teamfight Tactics will face significant power reductions in the new version.

Xayah

To put it mildly, since the launch of Teamfight Tactics Season 7, Xayah has consistently been among the strongest carries. With her high damage output and excellent traits, Xayah ensures that you have a robust backline carry from level 1 star. This has led many compositions revolving around Xayah to receive significant favor and be trusted by gamers across all ranks.

However, in patch 12.14, Xayah’s power will be significantly reduced, especially at level 2 stars. This is because Riot will heavily reduce the scaling power of physical carries, with attack damage growth per star level being cut to 50% from 80% before. Specifically for Xayah, the damage dealt by each feather will also be greatly reduced, making her far less dominant than before. It seems that Xayah’s reign will come to an end when patch 12.14 releases.

Olaf

It seems that the previous nerf to Olaf didn’t impact the champion too much, as players only need to let him go down a few rounds for his attack damage to remain sky-high. Moreover, with the return of compositions utilizing ranged carries, the Assassin emblem build for Olaf is becoming stronger than ever. Therefore, at the moment, Olaf is still an extremely potent carry.

In patch 12.14, Olaf will also face a nerf in his scaling attack damage like all other champions. However, the notable point here is that Olaf’s base attack damage at level 3 stars will be reduced by nearly 30 points compared to the current state. Combined with a significant reduction in the attack speed provided by his ability, Olaf’s damage output in patch 12.14 will weaken considerably.

Varus

When players discovered the power of the Dragonborn trait, Varus became incredibly powerful due to the ease of reaching 3 stars. With his stat advantages, Varus can utilize items that increase attack speed to dominate damage in the mid to late game. If not facing Assassin compositions, it would be quite difficult to take down Varus quickly, as this champion is well protected by Fighter units.

However, this damage advantage will disappear in patch 12.14 as Varus is the champion facing the biggest loss with the reduced attack damage scaling. Specifically, at level 3 stars, Varus will only have 124 attack damage instead of 162 as before. This will severely diminish Varus’s damage over time, and even the Archer – Fighter composition may disappear with this change.
