As we know, recently, Spring LCK 2024 officially returned and started with two exciting matchups. Naturally, all eyes were on the match between Gen.G and T1, which has long been considered the El Clasico of the LCK and garnered even more attention after 2023, with Gen.G being the reigning LCK champion and T1 as the new champion of the 2023 World Championship. The match unfolded just as the audience expected, culminating in a comeback by Chovy and his teammates.

However, despite just starting to compete again, the LCK has encountered issues. Specifically, according to recent information from LCK media, the teams currently competing in the league have collectively signed a commitment to voice their concerns regarding the distribution of profits by the tournament organizers and any reforms that could impact the competition. Accordingly, on January 17, the teams stated that they had requested changes for the tournament over the past three years but ultimately found themselves unable to resolve the situation peacefully and amicably.

However, the issue arose when T1 announced that they did not participate in this commitment. According to T1’s CEO, “We will speak privately with the LCK organizers and will not participate in these discussions or statements. We will also discuss with Riot as a good business partner and will not hide anything from our fans”. Thus, it can be seen that, in some aspect, T1 has been “misrepresented” by LCK media in the announcement “All 10 teams in the tournament will oppose the organizers”.

Additionally, according to a statement from T1’s parent company (Comcast), the brand of this team cannot always be freely included in official or unofficial announcements without T1’s permission. Furthermore, T1 also stated that they are aware of how exhausted their players are. One of the issues that the remaining 9 teams are demanding is to address the significantly lower number of matches compared to other professional sports events.

Clearly, T1 has its reasons for not aligning with the other 9 teams in opposing the LCK. It’s not just a branding issue, but T1 is also facing strong backlash from their fans regarding the scheduling and congested show schedules, especially after the conclusion of the 2023 season.
