T1 has a “stunt” aimed at Smash and a confusing action related to Gumayusi

As is well known, in the Regular Seasons 2025 so far, several players have achieved a pentakill. This is a remarkable achievement and milestone in their careers, including Faker – who after 10 years finally got his own pentakill. However, recently, a player from T1 Challengers named Smash also achieved a pentakill, leading to a “stunt” from T1 itself. Accordingly, T1 is holding a large membership event to celebrate Smash’s pentakill from May 17 to 23.

Notably, Smash is not the only player from T1 Challengers to achieve a pentakill since Faker’s spectacular performance with the champion Ahri. Since Faker’s pentakill, another well-known player from T1 Challengers, Poby, has also achieved a pentakill with the champion Viktor. However, Poby did not receive any welcoming event.

While the event was initially seen by many fans as a celebration for Faker's pentakill.

Interestingly, this welcoming event was initially organized for Faker’s historic pentakill and even received support from the League of Legends community. However, when Smash also received a welcome while Poby did not, it ignited anger among many T1 fans. The calmest fans questioned: “Gumayusi’s anti-fan group is always upset because Gumayusi receives support. But now look at what T1 is doing with Smash? I don’t understand T1’s logic. Isn’t this just increasing the negative response towards Smash?”

Fans also expressed confusion over T1's actions due to the inconsistency, showing clear favoritism towards Smash compared to other players in T1 Challengers and potentially drawing negative reactions towards this player.

Furthermore, according to some information, T1Gall even sent a letter to candidates for leadership positions in South Korea to criticize the T1 CEO’s request to include Gumayusi in the roster for Regular Seasons 2025, calling this action “ruining Esports”. However, this issue is currently only circulating within the online community in South Korea. And of course, the upper management of T1 has done nothing.

Perhaps the “undercurrents” still exist at T1

At present, although the starting lineup seems stable, it can be seen that “undercurrents” are still happening at T1, and any unfavorable results could ignite controversies immediately afterward. Therefore, T1 fans might not want to have too high expectations for this season, especially when T1 itself cannot resolve its internal issues.
