T1 CEO reignites controversy surrounding T1 – Zeus – Gumayusi drama
Recently, T1 faced defeat against Hanwha Life Esports, notably marking the first official match of T1’s new lineup against their former player Zeus since his departure. The main cause stems from the controversial decisions made by the team’s coaching staff regarding player Gumayusi. More specifically, right after the loss, early on May 29 (Vietnam time), T1 CEO Joe Marsh unexpectedly hosted a livestream to discuss the transfer of Zeus and the controversial benching of Gumayusi.

Among the CEO’s statements, one noteworthy detail that could ignite controversy is his remarks about Gumayusi and Zeus. Specifically: “Gumayusi started as a ‘carry prodigy’ akin to Draven. However, when we have a hyper-carry in the Top Lane (referring to Zeus), the AD Carry needs to have a more defensive approach. Therefore, when the top laner is a tank, Gumayusi must revert to his old hyper-carry playstyle. This requires time as he has adjusted his style for many years.”

However, once again, this contradicts T1’s previous statements. Instead of gradually allowing Gumayusi to regain his familiar hyper-carry playstyle, which the LCK Cup 2025 would have been a suitable opportunity, they used that very tournament to push Gumayusi to the bench. Clearly, no player can reclaim their signature playstyle just by… climbing ranks.
Moreover, this inadvertently “implies” that Zeus forced Gumayusi to abandon his playstyle. This could spark further controversy, especially considering the ongoing heated debates between T1 fans and Zeus’s dedicated followers since the player born in 2004 left the team after a tumultuous transfer period.

Another figure inadvertently pulled into this narrative is Doran. Doran’s playstyle has typically been a supporting role for the team’s main AD Carries (Ruler, Peyz, Viper). However, with the recent statements from T1’s CEO, he will become a “target,” especially following T1’s loss. Since Gumayusi’s return, T1 has been funneling more resources into the top lane, and it is evident that T1 aims to develop Doran into a different version of Zeus.

T1 Prepares for New “Storm”
As for the T1 players, a new “storm” awaits them just before the crucial playoffs stage. Perhaps except for Faker, Oner, and Keria; the names Gumayusi and Doran will be mentioned frequently in the upcoming matches, especially if T1 faces HLE in the future.
