T1 Sparks Controversy Again
Recently, the categories for The Game Awards 2024 were announced. Among them, T1 and League of Legends dominated all the Esports categories with awards for: Best Esports Team (T1), Best Esports Player (Faker), and Best Esports Game (League of Legends).
However, the controversy lies in the fact that 2024 was not actually a successful year for T1; if anything, they may have declined compared to 2023. T1 went completely empty-handed in their domestic league, and they even had to enter the World Championship as the fourth seed.

On the international stage, T1’s greatest achievement was successfully defending their World Championship title. Their position at MSI 2024 did not change from last year. Additionally, the EWC 2024 that T1 won is not officially recognized as an Esports or League of Legends tournament by Riot. Therefore, overall, T1’s performance in 2024 can be described as stagnant, if not slightly regressive.

Fans Are Unhappy with T1’s Results
On various forums, fans expressed their dissatisfaction with T1’s results. While their achievement at the World Championship is unprecedented, it is clear that League of Legends and Esports encompass much more than just the World Championship. One blunt opinion stated: “NA’VI even has better results than T1 over the past year, participating in 7 tournaments and winning 4 of them. Yet they still didn’t win the TGA?”.
Furthermore, Faker’s own award has also left many people puzzled. However, the debate surrounding Faker’s category is relatively less heated since he performed extraordinarily at the 2024 World Championship.

It can be said that even with just the supplementary categories, TGA 2024 has generated intense controversy. This situation has not positively impacted T1, a team that has gone through much drama since their World Championship victory in 2024.
