The match T1 – IG recorded an “incredible” achievement of the reigning Worlds champion
Before the Swiss Stage of Worlds 2025 took place, the League of Legends community witnessed an exciting showdown between T1 and IG. Two of the most popular representatives in the League of Legends scene did not disappoint their fans and delivered a thrilling match. The eventual victory for T1 was predictable. However, in game 1, T1 won in one of the most “incredible” ways in Worlds history.

Specifically, in game 1, T1 won purely due to their macro ability to take towers and good team fights. Meanwhile, they lost almost all major objectives in the Jungle, including 4 Dragons and the Dragon Soul, 3 Void Beasts, the Rift Herald, and only secured 1 Baron buff. According to statistics from DPM.LOL, in Worlds history, a team that has given up nearly all major objectives like this has only a 4.3% chance of winning.
In reality, during game 1, T1 was on the verge of clear defeat. But no one understood why at the decisive moment, TheShy decided to dive straight into T1’s Mid Lane turret and was taken down by Gumayusi, bringing a shutdown kill for T1’s AD Carry. From there, T1 quickly regained control and won the team fight against IG, setting the stage for their overall victory in game 1.

The victory against IG also somewhat showcases T1’s preparation
The match against IG was extremely important. But it was also from this match that T1 showed they could adapt to many different playstyles, and the players wanted to have more options for the extremely challenging Fearless Draft mode at this year’s Worlds.

After the Swiss Stage, if the results are favorable, T1 will advance to the playoffs stage consisting entirely of BO5 matches. The champion pool weakness that once caused T1 considerable difficulties, even leading to failures in the domestic season, is definitely something this team does not want to repeat at Worlds 2025.
