A player has arrived at Worlds 2024 but is unlikely to be utilized
The World Championship is the biggest tournament of the year in the League of Legends scene and the glory that every player desires. However, not everyone gets the chance to touch the prestigious trophy, and in League of Legends history, only Faker has managed to win this tournament four times. This year, Faker’s team, T1, arrives at Worlds 2024 as the reigning champion. However, within T1 itself, there is a player who has a 99% chance of becoming a “benchwarmer” on this journey to Worlds.

Specifically, that player is the former ADC from LEC – Rekkles. He comes to Worlds 2024 as the backup Support for T1. When T1 officially announced this information, many Western fans were incredibly excited. After all, being part of T1 might be the best opportunity the former ADC born in 1996 could have to claim a World Championship title. However, it is precisely because he joined T1 that Rekkles’ chances of playing are at an all-time low.

This player joined a team with a very high chance of winning Worlds but has a very unfortunate situation
In the past, only Easyhoon was the sole substitute who got to play in a Worlds tournament while on SKT T1. And it was only in 2015 that SKT T1 had up to 6 players with Worlds skins. In subsequent years, even in 2016, they only had 5 Worlds skins for 5 official players competing. Both the old SKT T1 and the current T1 do not have a tradition of using substitutes, even when their players have issues (whether health or psychological).

Rekkles’ chance may only come if Faker suffers a severe injury that prevents him from continuing to compete. In that case, T1 might move Keria to Mid Lane and allow Rekkles to fill in. However, T1’s choice of Rekkles is somewhat forced, as Riot has mandated that all teams must have substitutes. Therefore, Rekkles’ chances of playing are nearly nonexistent, as every match for T1 is extremely important. Replacing Rekkles when T1 is losing could place additional pressure on him, leading to results that could spiral out of this team’s control.
