Alongside and existing with the game Age of Empire, CS 1.1 is perhaps one of the most legendary titles in the eyes of FPS game enthusiasts to date. This game once dominated gaming rooms and internet cafes in areas such as Medical University, Polytechnic, and Economics… it remains an unforgettable memory for students from the 8x and 9x generations. It also served as the foundation for many famous shooting games both domestically and internationally, such as Crossfire and CS:GO… However, not all gamers accept the changes brought by technology or time.
Indeed, although there are now many new FPS games with various styles, despite survival shooting games like PUBG, ROS, Fortnite… dominating most of the demanding gaming markets, there exists a significant community in Vietnam that is still passionate and steadfastly loyal to the game CS 1.1. They even organize various tournaments, large and small, both domestically and internationally, to hone their skills and affirm their position. As a result, many well-known gamers have emerged, such as ChickenZero, Dũng Gà, Bảo Kê, Ngon, Em Gà, Empty, Mài Chym Bống….
However, with its outdated graphics and inability to be played online like many contemporary games, this has become a significant barrier preventing many new gamers from accessing the game. Naturally, the number of professional teams for this game can be counted on one hand.
Notable teams currently competing in this gaming community include: 3D Gaming, Home Studio, Hà Nội Team… Therefore, the launch of the eSports team CS 1.1 SQUARON on May 10, 2020, at the Green Pearl urban area is a first step for gamers to assert their desire to revitalize this game in Vietnam, as well as in some Southeast Asian countries like Malaysia and the Philippines…
The official lineup of SQUARON consists of 7 members: 2K, Thanh 16+, Empty, Kool, Hiếu Soda, Smile, Giàng A Chử, and Mài Dao Kéo. All team members are young gamers but have accumulated a wealth of experience through various community tournaments. Notably, member 2K, born in 2001, is dubbed a prodigy as he has quickly reached the top rank in a short time.
Additionally, the team boasts the best enemy reconnaissance player in Vietnam at this time – Thanh 16+. Moreover, we cannot forget NSND Smile – the comedian of the CS 1.1 community, who always brings laughter to the audience and provides significant motivation for the entire team.
“As a gamer who has been passionate about CS 1.1 since I was very young. For me, CS 1.1 is still an irreplaceable game by any other FPS title. Therefore, witnessing the game gradually decline over time makes me feel the need to do something to revitalize this community strongly. Initially, my first step was to establish the SQUARON team, which will later serve as a foundation for me and other CS 1.1 teams to work together to build quality tournaments for the game in Vietnam in the near future,” said Mr. Lê Đình Tú – the manager of team SQUARON at the team’s launch ceremony.
Mr. Tú also mentioned that to sustain the SQUARON eSports team in the near future, in addition to participating in professional tournaments organized by the community, the gamers will gradually build their brand image to participate in other commercial programs such as joining livestreaming platforms or receiving sponsorship from advertising brands.
During the launch ceremony, team SQUARON had an epic showdown with the 3D Esport team. This is considered a starting point for efforts to revive a game as old as CS 1.1. Hopefully, with the efforts and determination from SQUARON and the CS 1.1 community in Vietnam, this game will achieve significant success in the near future.
