There is a reality at the moment: GAM Esports is the center of attention for the Vietnamese League of Legends community in general and many international viewers as well. The representatives from the VCS have had what can be described as the worst MSI since League of Legends in Vietnam had the opportunity to participate in this international stage. Many professional opinions and comments from fans have been made to dissect GAM’s failure.
One of the notable opinions that fans in Vietnam have been eagerly awaiting comes from SofM. Since becoming a streamer and having the opportunity to co-stream with both domestic and international tournaments, SofM often provides analyses and insights with very high expertise. SofM has also pointed out the strengths and weaknesses in the draft phases of teams multiple times, and indeed, the subsequent results have reflected the accuracy of SofM’s assessments.
In the recent GAM – R7 match, SofM also offered insights into the performances of the players from GAM. Throughout the match, SofM praised Kiaya multiple times. He was also quite surprised by some situations where GAM dared to attack and secure victories even when they were clearly at a disadvantage against their opponents.
However, SofM pointed out the most critical situation that led to GAM’s overall defeat, which was the first Dragon fight. Since it was the Infernal Dragon, GAM did not want to miss it, even though at that moment, Levi was very ahead but only level 5, while their bottom lane was completely pressured. Being at a comprehensive disadvantage, Levi not having the Guardian Angel resulted in GAM’s complete failure. The lost skirmish, losing the Dragon, and triggering a “domino effect” led GAM to be snowballed heavily by R7, resulting in their defeat.
Additionally, SofM remarked that Kiaya is a bright spot that GAM should have focused on from the start and that Levi should have ganked top more frequently. However, GAM did not operate in this direction, resulting in further losses.
GAM could not fully utilize their strengths (Kiaya, Levi’s damage output, Lissandra’s playmaking ability) and allowed R7 to dictate the game throughout. A mistake at the Dragon Pit was perhaps just the most prominent highlight of GAM’s overall failure in the decisive match at MSI 2023.
