SGB Completely Outplayed in Final Group Stage Match, T1 Continues Record-Breaking Undefeated Streak

The result of the T1 - SGB match was not surprising as both teams had already achieved their goals in the MSI 2022 group stage.

Entering the final match of the MSI 2022 group stage, T1 and Saigon Buffalo had already achieved their immediate goals at MSI 2022. For T1, it was almost effortless to maintain their undefeated streak while securing an early ticket to the Rumble Stage. Meanwhile, although SGB faced some challenges, they successfully reached the top 6.

Therefore, the match between SGB and T1 was merely a formality, but for the VCS community in particular and the international LoL scene in general, it was still a match worth watching. Many wanted to see if “The Buffaloes” could take revenge or at least create surprises like they did in the first round. Additionally, T1 aimed for this match to extend their undefeated record and experiment with new team compositions. Faker and his teammates indeed did just that with a Support Rumble pick for Keria.

With a significant disadvantage from the early ban/pick phase compared to T1, SGB still showcased a commendable effort. Although the bot lane suffered greatly due to the continuous pressure from the Kalista-Rumble combo, Hasmed in the top lane and Froggy in the mid lane still performed well against Zeus and Faker. However, that was not enough. Keria’s mobility was too troublesome. This champion’s Rumble executed Rocket Rain plays that prevented Shogun from playing the game. An SGB composition lacking mobility simply couldn’t counter T1. Faker and his teammates concluded the group stage with a rather devastating victory.

With this achievement, Faker and his teammates accomplished all their objectives in the MSI 2022 group stage while also testing their full roster. Looking ahead to the Rumble Stage, T1 will definitely need to be more cautious as the opponents there are all very strong.

As for SGB, this defeat has provided them with many lessons as well as allowing Coach Ren to prepare additional strategies for the “young Buffaloes” ahead of the Rumble Stage. However, if they play focused and give their all, SGB has the potential to cause surprises in the upcoming Rumble Stage.
