For the professional League of Legends community, the title of World Championship is undoubtedly a goal that every player dreams of. A championship at the biggest international tournament of the year not only brings immediate glory to the players but also provides them with honorary items, regional accolades, and especially boosts the pride of their fans. However, due to the many changes in the history of League of Legends, the title of World Champion often brings about controversies. In the English versions of the title, Riot often uses the term “World Champions”, and this has recently caused Gen.G to “face trouble”.

Accordingly, LG UltraGear’s official X account posted an announcement about Gen.G’s schedule at the Esports World Cup 2024. However, instead of using the term “MSI Champions” or any other wording, the sponsor referred to Gen.G as “World Champion” – a title that Riot uses to refer to the World Championship winners. And everyone knows that the current World Champion is T1.

Immediately, a large portion of the League of Legends community flooded the comments section expressing their confusion over LG UltraGear’s content. Even Chovy’s fans believed that the sponsor had posted the message out of misunderstanding, causing Gen.G players to be targeted unfairly. For T1 fans, the frustration was evidently greater, with many not hesitating to assert that the sponsor not only failed to check the information but also showed disrespect to T1. Furthermore, Gen.G’s official X account even reposted LG UltraGear’s message, further fueling the outrage.

– Not only is it disrespectful to T1 but also to Gen.G. Before collaborating, shouldn’t you check what they have achieved? Take this down. Think before you speak.
– Gen.G is definitely not the World Champion yet.
– There is no disrespect to Gen.G, but as a sponsor, you need to research thoroughly before posting. Especially since the World Champion T1 is also participating in this event.

Currently, while the number of opposing comments continues to rise, neither LG UltraGear nor Gen.G has provided any response or addressed the post. Clearly, such content once again puts Gen.G under pressure. Now, if they can maintain their current performance and win the World Championship in 2024, everything will be resolved. But if they fail to win the 2024 World Championship or are eliminated early, the players will become the targeted victims of the controversial media coverage from their management company.
