Losing to LNG Esports in the 2021 LPL Summer Playoffs not only marked Royal Never Give Up as the former champion of League of Legends in China but also put them at significant risk of not accumulating enough points to secure one of the two direct spots for Worlds 2021.
With FunPlus Phoenix and EDward Gaming both reaching the final match, RNG was pushed down to the position of having to fight for a Worlds ticket in the Regional Qualifiers. However, thanks to their superior skill level, Xiaohu and his teammates managed to surpass this hurdle easily, after defeating Team WE in the first match of the qualifiers.
With this victory, RNG officially secured their ticket to Europe as the third seed from LPL, while Team WE will enter the final match and await one of two opponents, Rare Atom or LNG Esports, to compete for the last LPL slot at the biggest League of Legends tournament in the world.
The fact that RNG could only reach Worlds 2021 as the third seed is perhaps one of the biggest surprises of the LPL Summer this year. However, despite their inconsistent performance during the summer split, RNG is still considered a powerhouse capable of competing for the championship, boasting many stars in impressive form like Xiaohu, GALA, and Ming.
