PBE: Few Buffs and Cuts from Riot Games, Do ADCs Really Have a Chance to Survive?

It seems that Riot Games' promise to buff ADCs is more about form than substance.

Not long ago, Riot Games announced plans to buff their ADCs by increasing the health of all champions in this class (except for a few special cases) by 30 health and 5 health per level. Additionally, the attack speed of critical items from the Blade of the Ruined King was also increased. Many players were extremely happy to learn about this change because finally, ADCs would receive a comprehensive update.

However, life is not as dreamy as it seems; players didn’t even get a chance to celebrate because buffed ADCs fell into a state of despair when the latest updates on the PBE server showed that Riot Games was gradually retracting these buffs. Specifically, all upgrades related to critical items were reverted back to the current stats of the live server.

Moreover, the additional health per level for all previously buffed ADCs (except Aphelios and Kai’Sa) has been reduced by 3 points, meaning instead of buffing +5, Riot only buffed +2. To give you a clearer picture, with this update, new ADC champions will only have 36 extra health at level 18, which is a paltry and insignificant number. Indeed, this class of champions has not received a comprehensive buff for a long time but is treated poorly by Riot.

It seems that Riot Games still hasn’t recognized the disadvantages of ADCs; they are fumbling in their attempts to adjust this class of champions but the updates are not focused at all. The nature of ADCs in League of Legends is to be low in health and to take advantage of their range to deal damage, so buffing their health doesn’t impact much. Regarding the advantage of range, there are now too many strong champions that can dive in meta, so it is totally normal for ADCs to become weaker.

Therefore, instead of buffing meaningless stats like health per level for ADCs, Riot needs to reduce the mobility of classes like Fighters and Tanks so they can be kited by ADCs more easily. That way, there’s no need for buffs, and ADC champions will become strong again. However, in recent years, Riot has preferred to create overpowered champions comprehensively, so this is very unlikely to happen.
