If they win against KT, T1 will equal the record of 14 consecutive unbeaten matches set by SKT T1 in Summer 2015. After facing KT, T1’s opponents are all relatively unremarkable names, including Kwangdong Freecs, Fredit BRION, Liiv SANDBOX, and DRX. Among these, perhaps only DRX has the potential to pose a challenge to Faker and his teammates. Therefore, this is a great opportunity for Faker and his team to extend their winning streak and become the only team in League of Legends history to remain unbeaten in all group stage matches.
If they can win from now until the LCK Spring 2022 group stage concludes, T1 will also break the unbeaten record of 18 matches set by Invictus Gaming in Spring 2018. At that time, IG lost their opening match against Royal Never Give Up but then went on to win 18 consecutive matches, making IG one of the most nearly perfect teams in that era of League of Legends group stages. Notably, they also successfully avenged RNG with a 2-0 victory in the return match.
However, after such a nearly perfect group stage, IG lost in the semifinals to… RNG. This defeat cost IG a spot at MSI 2018. Additionally, the loss to RNG affected their mentality, leading to subsequent defeat against Rogue Warriors in the 3rd-4th place match.
