T1’s Coaching Staff Also Achieves Unprecedented Milestones in Worlds History
It can be said that Worlds 2025, despite many changes in format and numerous unexpected events, would be nothing compared to the miraculous journey of KT and the historic championship cup of T1. Before Worlds 2025 took place, this matchup was considered the hardest to encounter, and this assertion was further substantiated when KT had to share a group with HLE and Gen.G. However, what happened afterwards is history, and even T1’s coaching staff has its own “unprecedented” milestones.

First, Coach Kkoma became the coach with the most Worlds championships in League of Legends history, with a total of 5 championships alongside his team. Among these, 2 times his team successfully defended this title. This is an achievement that many coaches dream of, especially as League of Legends becomes increasingly competitive and the role of coaches is elevated as it is today.
Next, Coach Tom also achieved his first Worlds championship as a coach, which is also the first Worlds cup in his career, considering his time as a player until now. In Tom’s case, he actually began his role in 2024. However, at that time, his role was quite insignificant, with most of the work being done by Kkoma and Roach. It wasn’t until 2025 when Roach enlisted that Tom’s role became more significant as he and Mata became the two pick and ban coaches for T1.

Finally, there’s Mata – the legendary Support of LCK. With his achievement of leading T1 to victory in Worlds 2025 alongside Tom and Kkoma, Mata became the first person in League of Legends history to win this tournament as both a player and a coach. Previously, Mata had been crowned in Worlds 2014 while wearing the Samsung White jersey. Mata was also one of the last players of the SKT T1 dynasty before the team rebranded.

However, T1’s Coaching Staff Has Also Caused Controversy
Earlier this year, the decisions of T1’s coaching staff sparked much controversy, notably the decision to bench Gumayusi and bring in Smash, which resulted in T1 having a very poor performance in the LCK Cup and even almost losing the chance to attend MSI 2025. After the “turmoil”, T1 is now the reigning champion of Worlds, but many fans still worry about the upcoming season, as there have been numerous rumors from the LCK community suggesting that T1 might experiment with a 6-man roster once again.
