Just a few hours ago, version 14.15 along with Season 12 of TFT officially landed on the PBE servers. Previously, Riot Games also introduced many new champions, traits, and a unique mechanism called Charms for TFT Season 12. This promises to give players a lot of exciting experiences in the new season.

Not stopping there, Riot Games has recently revealed a critical change in TFT for the new season. Specifically, a member of the TFT Season 12 design team – Riot Iniko, recently disclosed that the energy system will undergo a significant transformation. In fact, this change could completely revamp the game and have a strong impact on the meta.
“Previously, every time a champion used their skill, their energy would always return to 0. Even if that character had energy exceeding the maximum threshold from the Shojin Spear or certain traits. However, with Season 12, any excess energy will be retained after the champion uses their skill. For example, if a champion has a maximum energy of 50 but recovers up to 60 energy, after using their skill, this value will return to 10 instead of 0 as before,” Riot Iniko revealed during a live stream.

This change in TFT Season 12 promises to make spell-casting carries extremely powerful. It’s important to note that spell-casting carries have previously been limited in damage due to the energy lock mechanism. Combined with the fact that excess energy could not be retained made things even more difficult for them. However, with the changes in Season 12, spell-casting carries can continuously cast skills if they have enough items.

Not stopping there, this change is expected to make the Shojin Spear extremely powerful in the upcoming Season 12. Previously, this item was often rated lower than the Blue Buff because champions couldn’t utilize the excess energy after using their skills. With Riot allowing champions to retain this excess value starting in Season 12, the Shojin Spear will have enormous value as it helps champions always have abundant energy.

In summary, starting from Season 12, any excess energy after a champion uses their skill will be retained. This is a crucial change that will make spell-casting carries and the Shojin Spear much stronger. Interestingly, Season 12 has the theme of “Magic and Chaos.” Perhaps for this reason, Riot is making this change to help spell-casting carries shine brightly.
