LPL’s All-Star Roster Receives Poor Results at Demacia Cup
Typically, major regions like LPL or LCK host a showmatch tournament for teams to unveil their new rosters after the transfer season and allow players to familiarize themselves in real matches. However, not always do top teams achieve the desired results, even in this “local” tournament. The recent case of JD Gaming at the Demacia Cup 2024 exemplifies this.
In one of the oldest tournaments in the LPL, JDG, featuring a lineup full of players set to compete in the upcoming season, including newcomers like Ale and Scout – Peyz, was swiftly eliminated. Although they secured 2 wins, they unexpectedly lost to ThunderTalk Gaming, finishing second in Group C and having to accept elimination.
As for rookie Peyz, in his debut tournament in China, he has yet to make a significant impression. While these were just BO1 matches, TT capitalized on their opportunities, whereas JDG did not.
LPL Is Not Easy for “Super Marksman” Peyz
Transitioning to play in the LPL, Peyz once again fills in for his senior, Ruler. However, JDG is not Gen.G, and Peyz does not have the nearly flawless teammates he enjoyed in the LCK.
Moreover, when Ruler moved to the LPL, he had already established his talent and reputation. In contrast, Peyz only has his LCK and MSI championships to fall back on. Yet, the crucial point is that Peyz’s playstyle has always been about being the “number one marksman”. This only works if the team is built around him or if he is a superstar like Ruler.
It remains unclear whether JDG can create the best environment for Peyz to develop, but he is already encountering difficulties. Furthermore, Peyz’s arrival at JDG was marked by transfer drama, and it would not be an exaggeration to say that the Demacia Cup 2024 is just the beginning. The journey ahead for both Peyz and JDG may be even more challenging.
