LPL Determines 4 Representatives for Worlds
On September 2nd, the final match of the regional qualifiers for the LPL World Championship officially concluded. Accordingly, WBG defeated JDG with a score of 3-2, becoming the 4th seed from the LPL region for the upcoming Worlds 2024. The other representatives from the LPL region are BLG as the 1st seed (champions of LPL Summer 2024), TES as the 2nd seed (with the most accumulated points), and LNG as the 3rd seed (having defeated WBG).

Interestingly, during the subsequent opening ceremony, all 4 LPL representatives announced that they would wear white uniforms at the upcoming Worlds. Many fans believe this is a “spiritual” move by the LPL representatives. Remember at the last even-numbered Worlds (2022), DRX became champions with white uniforms. Perhaps the LPL representatives want to reuse this color at Worlds 2024 (also an even year) to increase their chances of winning.

LPL Fans Share Harsh Remarks About Worlds 2024
Despite employing such a “spiritual” approach, LPL fans seem to have little faith in the upcoming Worlds. Even immediately after the opening ceremony of the LPL region, many fans expressed harsh comments about the teams’ performances. They believe that the LPL representatives this year are too weak and have no chance when facing teams from the LCK.

Indeed, looking at the international tournament results this year, LPL fans can hardly feel secure about the upcoming Worlds. Remember at the MSI 2024 held on home soil, BLG suffered a 1-3 defeat and had to watch Gen.G (an LCK representative) claim the title. Even the other LPL representative at MSI – TES was brutally defeated by G2 with a score of 0-3. With the strongest representatives from the LPL being questioned about their strength, it’s understandable that teams like LNG and WBG are receiving harsh criticism from fans.

It should be noted that the 2024 season is a particularly challenging phase for the LPL tournament, as viewership has sharply declined. The main reason stems from the fans’ waning faith in the tournament after a series of failures from MSI 2023, Worlds 2023, to the recent MSI 2024. Perhaps if the LPL representatives continue to fail to achieve good results at Worlds 2024, this region will witness a further “downward spiral” in the 2025 season that follows.
