Before facing Top Esports (TES) in the LPL Summer 2023 qualifiers, EDward Gaming (EDG) had achieved two crucial victories. This gave EDG fans and Uzi a great deal of confidence that they could defeat TES. They even envisioned EDG securing a spot at the World Championship (Worlds) 2023 as the team had qualified for the regional qualifiers.

However, reality showed that TES was the stronger team as they won against EDG with a final score of 3-2. Even neutral fans in the LPL region bluntly stated that it would be very difficult for Uzi to participate in Worlds 2023, let alone win the championship. All of this stemmed from a disastrous play by EDG in game 5.
Specifically, in an early game turret dive, the EDG members successfully took down JackeyLove. However, they became too greedy and wanted to eliminate both Mark and Rookie as well. Coupled with poor coordination in sharing damage absorption, many EDG members fell, giving their opponents a massive advantage.

“Watching how EDG coordinated their turret dive made me feel sad. They were too greedy after taking down JackeyLove, leaving 4 kills for the opponents. Moreover, the kills went to Rookie on Jayce. Honestly, EDG needs to reassess their coordination after this match. Otherwise, there will be no ‘final dance’ for Uzi,” shared an LPL viewer.

As mentioned above, EDG and Uzi have qualified for the regional qualifiers, so their chances of earning a ticket to Worlds 2023 are still alive. However, they need to draw serious lessons from their recent loss to TES, particularly regarding coordination. If not, a bleak scenario for Uzi, where EDG fails to participate in this year’s Worlds, is highly likely to occur.
