Although League of Legends is currently the most played game in the world, the truth is that a segment of its players have lost interest in it. Many have switched to playing Teamfight Tactics, and worse, some have abandoned the game to try others like DOTA2. The reasons are quite understandable: the community is excessively toxic, and Riot Games’ updates have not satisfied players.

A foreign gamer, after about a month of switching to DOTA2, shared his struggles with the community while learning to play this game. Contrary to expectations of being shunned like “elite” players, he was warmly welcomed by DOTA2 gamers, who even shared the best ways to get accustomed to this new game.

I just started playing DOTA2 this month.
Basically, I was completely fed up with League of Legends and promised myself I would give DOTA2 a chance. What I like about this game is:
The graphics quality is absolutely amazing.
The heroes in the game seem to be created with great care and passion.
The map is more beautiful than I could ever imagine.
There are many different game modes.

Things I don’t like:
There are too many items in the shop, so many that it feels overwhelming, and a lot of items have activation abilities.
Skill effects seem extremely hard to understand (sometimes I struggle to figure out what is happening in combat).
There are too many smurfers; 80% of my matches are against such players. Naturally, I lose almost all my games, but I still feel happy because this game gives a fresh feeling compared to League of Legends.
Some people suggested I should play Turbo mode to learn the game faster; is that okay? Besides, which heroes are suitable for beginners? I’m playing Venomancer because it reminds me of my favorite champions in League of Legends like Shaco and Teemo; I also like playing Night Stalker.

If you go to https://www.dotabuff.com/learn/lol, you will find a special area to guide players transitioning from League of Legends to DOTA2. That article was created by other players who also switched from LoL, and it has exactly what you need.
Great, thanks!
Oh, and just so you know, the Side shop was removed 1 or 2 years ago, so that side shop guide is no longer relevant. Most of the tips there are still correct.
Wow, has it been a year already? Hard to believe.
It was updated last November; the folks on Reddit usually have pretty bad memory, but this time it’s different.
It was removed last year along with the introduction of Outpost.

Although DOTA2 can also be quite toxic, at least in this game, players have a very high fighting spirit; even if they lose or get destroyed in lane, they still try hard instead of giving up easily. Perhaps the lack of a surrender feature has instilled this fighting spirit in DOTA2 players. Thus, this game offers a completely different experience for League of Legends players, who often face early destruction and spam /ff from the 15th minute.

DOTA2 may not update too often, with only two new heroes released in a year, but this game always has a certain allure for both new and old players. Therefore, Riot Games should find a way to balance League of Legends or do something to meet the demands of the community. The fact that they are losing players to DOTA2 is real, and it will continue to happen if Riot does not satisfy its loyal fans.
