Success Lies with The Shy – IG’s Playstyle is Too Dependent on the Korean Superstar
In the recent success of Invictus Gaming over the past two years, one cannot overlook the role of the Korean top laner The Shy. His outstanding performance helped IG secure the championship trophy at the 2018 World Championship, marking the first title for the Chinese region on the global stage. Mentioning The Shy brings to mind his aggressive playstyle, exceptional skills, and impeccable teamfight execution.
By watching and studying IG’s gameplay over the past two years, most other teams have realized that if they want to defeat IG, they must do everything possible to shut down the explosive player known as The Shy. Knowing this is one thing, but executing it is another. Despite facing several challenges in the group stage, IG still secured a spot in the semi-finals of the LPL Spring 2020.

However, yesterday, TOP Esports, particularly Karsa, the “God Jungle” from Taiwan, managed to accomplish this. In the third game alone, they did not “shut down” The Shy and allowed him to dominate his lane, but in the other three games, Karsa truly rendered The Shy powerless. Even when playing his signature champion Jayce, the Korean superstar could not lead the 2018 world champions to the finals of the LPL Spring 2020.
Particularly in those three games, we were impressed with two matches where he played Lee Sin, a champion that made Karsa famous. The Taiwanese jungler truly caused The Shy to be completely “shut down” and utterly helpless. As we know, once the top laner, who many fans consider the number one in the world, does not gain an advantage, the IG team quickly fell 1-3, thus granting the final spot to their opponent TOP Esports.
