The Silver Spear is one of many new items added by Riot to the League of Legends shop in Season 11. This item was even given a power boost by Riot Games in patch 11.3, buffing both Attack Damage and bonus health. However, the sad truth is that the Silver Spear is being “ignored” by players, with only a 0.1% purchase rate.

If you didn’t know, the Silver Spear provides champions with basic stats including health, magic resistance, and Attack Damage. This item also features an active ability to cleanse crowd control effects (except knock-ups) and increases crowd control resistance and slow resistance by 40% for 3 seconds. Essentially, Riot’s goal in creating this item was to provide Fighters with a way to cleanse crowd control effects. Additionally, Marksmen can also utilize this item.

However, the Silver Spear does not meet the power requirements for either of the two champion classes mentioned. For Fighters, they need to survive longer in battles to deal consistent damage from both skills and basic attacks. Therefore, effects that provide shields and healing are what this class needs most.
There are very few Fighters fragile enough to be taken down immediately by crowd control effects. Simply put, the common item builds for Fighters already provide a significant amount of health. Thus, the ability to cleanse crowd control effects of the Silver Spear seems appealing at first glance, but in reality, it does not suit Fighters well at all.

Moreover, this item is typically built late in the game, after players have completed their “core” items. For Fighters, they need items that significantly increase their damage output or ensure real durability at this stage. Unfortunately, the Silver Spear does not provide these elements, so very few Fighter players use it.

In the Marksman position, a class that needs crowd control cleansing, the Silver Spear is also not favored. The reason is quite clear: the Kraken Slayer is a much stronger choice, providing 20% critical strike chance with a similar active effect. Meanwhile, the 300 bonus health from the Silver Spear is almost meaningless for Marksmen at the late game.

This class of champions inherently has very modest defensive stats and must deal high damage to compensate for this weakness. 300 bonus health does not allow Marksmen to survive when attacked by Assassins. If threatened by dangerous crowd control skills, the Kraken Slayer, with its high damage potential (plus 20% critical strike chance), will help Marksmen deal damage much better than the Silver Spear.

This item might be suitable for one of the new champions that Riot is set to introduce into the game, but that’s a story for the future. For now, this item is too weak, and no one wants to use the Silver Spear at all.
