League of Legends at EWC 2025 officially kicks off, but there won’t be many noteworthy matches yet.
After MSI 2025, the League of Legends teams participating in the tournament will gain additional spots for EWC 2025. Additionally, there will be other names that did not participate in MSI but will join as invited teams. In the case of HLE, it’s because T1, as the reigning champion of EWC 2024 in League of Legends and having a spot in MSI, automatically receives T1’s spot. However, due to the BO1 format in the Group Stage, viewers can expect some surprises.

For example, at last year’s EWC, Gen.G was eliminated after only their first match, losing to TES. Each participating team in EWC from the Knockout stage will only have one life. Therefore, even though it is considered a “money farm” tournament and not part of Riot’s official system, EWC is still deemed to be more intense than MSI.
Furthermore, this season, EWC 2025 may also implement Fearless Draft, which will add even more variables. Moreover, the ultimate goal for the teams participating in the tournament is likely the massive prize pool, so viewers can expect thrilling matches right from the start. However, the “classics” may only appear in the Knockout stage.

Additionally, the “key smash” format of EWC 2025 will be more intense, as keys will be smashed rather than just pressed like last year. According to some information, winning teams will also scatter the broken pieces of the losing team’s keys and check in right there. If this is true, it will be battles for honor.
