Mel is hailed as the “Queen of Game Bugs” in League of Legends
On January 23rd, the next champion of League of Legends named Mel was officially launched. This character has received a lot of attention as Mel was extremely well-developed in the previous two parts of Arcane. Additionally, this character’s skill set is incredibly interesting, boasting massive damage that can quickly take down opponents, especially with her unique W skill that reflects projectiles regardless of abilities or basic attacks.

However, this W skill has quickly led Mel into the “legendary temple” of the most buggy characters in the game. Many players have recently reported being unexpectedly disconnected from matches when allies or opponents have Mel on their team. What’s even more frustrating is that the entire match history of games with Mel is not recorded, making it even harder to investigate the cause.

Nevertheless, the “bug saint” Vandiril recently clarified the mystery, and surprisingly, it stems from the interaction between Mel and Ryze. Specifically, when Ryze uses his basic combo of E-Q and Mel activates her W skill to reflect, all players in the match will instantly disconnect from the game. Moreover, when this bug occurs, the server seems to be affected, causing everything in the match to become extremely laggy before players are completely disconnected.
Of course, having a newly launched champion encounter game bugs is a normal occurrence in League of Legends. However, Mel is a rare case of experiencing a severe bug that causes the League of Legends server to lag and results in players “disconnecting” as described. Therefore, once this bug was discovered, Mel was crowned the “Queen of Game Bugs,” on par with legends like Mordekaiser and Viego from the past.
Mel is not the only case of encountering “game-breaking” bugs
Just a short while ago, Riot Games had to issue an urgent announcement temporarily locking the champion Rumble from ranked mode. The reason is that Rumble is facing a series of severe bugs, from continuously triggering the Triumph rune to being able to summon multiple Rift Heralds. These bugs grant Rumble too much power to easily win, which could be exploited to climb ranks unfairly.

This shows that not just Mel or new champions, but League of Legends itself is currently plagued by too many game bugs that frustrate players. Perhaps Riot Games needs to quickly find new solutions to these issues rather than waiting until bugs are discovered before fixing them. Otherwise, future new champions may also fall into the “trap” that Mel has encountered.
