Is It Time for a Standard to Evaluate the Top 1 in AoE?

AoE seemed outdated and forgotten. Suddenly, this game has become hotter than ever with positive changes in the community, especially with continuous semi-professional tournaments that boost AoE training from the community.

Like many other offline competitive games, the strategy game AoE has had its ups and downs throughout history. There were times when AoE was considered the “National Game” for students of the 70s and 80s generations. AoE is not a difficult game because anyone can play it; however, becoming a skilled and recognized player is a whole different issue.

Unlike other strategy or online fighting games, AoE has yet to establish any standards to evaluate players’ levels on the AoE map. According to the common perception of most AoE fans, players competing in the main lineup of clans are automatically called Top 1, simply because they have won many titles, they engage with the community, they get broadcasted, and most importantly, they compete together in major tournaments.

However, is this really fair to semi-professional players, who for various reasons cannot compete for clans? If we say that semi-professional AoE players are not Top 1, then why have some semi-professional players easily defeated Top 1 players? Names like Hạnh HG, SG_Legend, Đinh Xuân Canh, etc. have convincingly won against Top 1 players competing for professional clans like U98, ChipBoy, Hồng Anh, etc. So which tier do these semi-professional players belong to?

Moreover, professional AoE still lacks a scoring system and an official competition framework to determine wins and losses, and the titles that both semi-professional and professional players achieve. While other games like League of Legends, Arena of Valor, or Dota 2 have their own standards to evaluate players, this seems quite new for the legendary game AoE.

It’s time for AoE to change and integrate with the general trend of the gaming community in Vietnam, and to develop a solution that evaluates the skill levels of both professional and semi-professional players. A ranking system, a competition framework, and a complete AoE Ranking will help AoE return to the forefront of the gaming scene it rightfully belongs to.

Facing the issues of AoE Ranking, as well as the transformations within the AoE community in Vietnam, and more than ever the desire to promote and develop the AoE community. GTV, a leading eSports organization, has launched GPlay – Big Update along with the blockbuster “Standard eSports AoE Ranking”. With a clear division into 6 ranks from low to high, including: Soldier, Squad Leader, Platoon Leader, Company Commander, General, and Marshal, the software GPlay promises to become the new standard and a breath of fresh air for the Age of Empires game this August.
