At the World Championship 2022 (Worlds 2022), Gen.G Esports (Gen.G) and the LPL representatives are highly rated. While the reigning LCK Summer 2022 champion is seen as the top contender for the championship, all four teams from LPL attending this Worlds are extremely strong. Among them is the champion of two consecutive MSI – Royal Never Give Up (RNG). And we cannot forget the reigning Worlds champion 2021 – EDward Gaming (EDG).

It can be said that if at Worlds 2021, EDG had to compete against three “giants” of LCK, namely Gen.G, T1, and DWG KIA (DK), the situation at Worlds 2022 has completely reversed. According to many evaluations, names like Royal Never Give Up (RNG), JD Gaming (JDG), or Top Esports (TES) are stronger than DK and T1. However, it is also a fact that after the first few days of the Play-In Stage, DRX is currently leading the table, not RNG as many had predicted earlier.

For Gen.G’s CEO – Arnold Hur, he does not think that LPL teams are actually that intimidating. In a recent quick Q&A with some fans, he pointed out two opponents that he believes Gen.G needs to be wary of. When asked “Which opponent should Gen.G be most cautious about?” he immediately replied: “It’s DK and T1.”

Currently, both T1 and DK have somewhat lost their previous form. DK’s situation is even worse as Coach Daeny is still struggling with his tactical plans. As for T1, no one knows when Gumayusi will regain the form he had back in late 2021 and Spring 2022. While Faker is getting older and ShowMaker has been inconsistent. Players like Zeus, Oner, or Canyon cannot carry the team every game.

Perhaps, according to Gen.G’s CEO’s argument, DK and T1 are familiar opponents for this team as all three compete in the LCK. Therefore, it can be said that all three have studied each other very thoroughly and understand many strengths and weaknesses of their opponents. However, it is certain that Gen.G, T1, and DK will have to prepare very meticulously for Worlds 2022. Not to mention, “Blue Dragon” DRX is also showcasing its strength and determination after their impressive performances recently.
Coming to Worlds 2022, all representatives are the best teams in their regions. Any form of underestimation will come at a high cost. Therefore, not only DK and T1, but if Gen.G wants to be champions, they must focus maximally in each of their matches, regardless of who the opponent is.
