Gen.G Coach Admits Team’s Mistakes
After the Grand Final of the LCK Summer 2024, Gen.G officially lost the LCK crown to Hanwha Life Esports – a formidable opponent that Gen.G had consistently defeated until the match on September 8. Although Gen.G maintains the record as the only team in LCK with four consecutive domestic championships, the loss to HLE highlighted the former LCK champion’s struggles against a team that is just as strong. Additionally, Gen.G’s coach admitted that the team made mistakes, especially in the decisive game.

According to Coach Kim of Gen.G, he stated: “In game 5, we discussed a long time about whether to pick Corki or Ziggs. Ultimately, we decided to go with Ziggs. In reality, we could not counter the Vi – Ziggs combo. Furthermore, there were some issues in games 3 and 4, and the players made several turret dive mistakes. We should have been calmer. Despite the loss, I think there are many lessons to learn from this defeat.”

Gen.G Coach’s Explanation Also Unintentionally Clears T1
Specifically, some fans pointed out that T1’s continuous failure to secure Smolder or having to pick Ziggs for Gumayusi made their gameplay too predictable. However, as Coach Kim noted, it was actually Ziggs in Viper’s hands that was overwhelming. Meanwhile, T1 had to ban Peanut’s two champions, Vi and Maokai, in the early picks.
In the Grand Final, Vi and Maokai secured two crucial wins for HLE, one of which was in the decisive fifth game. Moreover, the fact that Faker and Oner were locked out of their signature playmaking champions (Azir, Lillia) forced T1 to consider various strategic directions.

In reality, HLE won because they performed better in every aspect. T1 demonstrated they could still utilize Ziggs effectively in game 2. However, HLE was in excellent form, especially Peanut, which led to the “Gen.G orange” winning. The ban-pick factor only played a part and was not the sole reason for T1’s defeat.
