Gen.G Coach Admits to “Self-Destruction” in LCK Cup 2025 Final
Recently, Gen.G faced their second consecutive defeat against Hanwha Life Esports in an LCK final. Although the LCK Cup cannot be considered on the same level as the Spring and Summer LCK tournaments, this loss is still hard for Gen.G to accept. Notably, Coach Kim pointed out that the main reason was that the MSI 2024 champions had “self-destructed”.

Specifically, Coach Kim admitted: “Regarding the Viego pick, we prepared carefully for this champion. However, Vayne was a hasty choice when we were confused and didn’t know which champion to pick. Of course, everything I say now is just an excuse. If we had won, I could have explained it better.”

However, Gen.G’s coach also sincerely stated: “But overall, because we didn’t perform well, we lost.” And this is the main reason Gen.G lost the championship and their spot in the upcoming First Stand of Riot.
Fans Are No Stranger to Gen.G’s Style
According to many fans, Coach Kim’s remarks are not surprising at all. This team has a tendency to “self-destruct” with many puzzling bans and picks, sometimes even tying their players’ hands. A prime example is Canyon’s perplexing pick of Trundle. HLE had no real tank, rendering Trundle’s ultimate useless, compounded by a lack of team coordination or objective control, making Gen.G play as if they were at a disadvantage.

Furthermore, HLE is one of the strongest teams in League of Legends right now. They have the ability to read Gen.G’s playstyle and they did just that. Just by putting Gen.G in a confused state with their bans and picks, HLE secured at least a 50% win rate.
It can be said that the LCK Cup 2025 final was an outstanding performance by HLE, and as Coach Kim stated, HLE had already defeated Gen.G in the pick and ban phase even before the game started.
