In a match against a very strong opponent at LCK Spring 2024, Dplus KIA, the reigning champion, Gen.G secured a victory with a score of 2-1. This win keeps Gen.G at the top of the standings with four consecutive wins since the start of the season. Additionally, Gen.G has demonstrated their strength despite the fact that the current roster of the reigning LCK champions includes 3 out of 5 new members. Gen.G’s good performance has helped the team navigate through media crises since the World Championship 2023 to now.

However, in the recent match against DK, Gen.G became the first team of the LCK this season to win but had a lower average score than the losing team. A series of Gen.G players were rated by fans as only average. Among them, Peyz did not even reach a score of 6, while the top three players, Kiin, Canyon, and Chovy, had the highest scores. Nonetheless, compared to DK, the scores were “worlds apart.” ShowMaker received the highest rating of 9.1, while Aming ranked second with a score of 7.4 – still higher than the entire Gen.G team. The lowest score was Kingen with only 4.3 points.

Setting aside factors like Gen.G “displeasing” LPL audiences (the scores were rated by readers of HUPU – a leading League of Legends information channel in China), it is clear that Gen.G did not perform much better than DK. Some fans bluntly stated: “Gen.G plays too mediocre. DK completely controlled all three matches and lost only due to a few bright moments from Gen.G players.” There were opinions suggesting that AD Carry Peyz still relies too much on the support of his teammates.

However, results remain the most important, and in the third game, Gen.G managed to control their advantage well. Although there were still a few hiccups from the “bug” of the Herald, Chovy and his teammates deserved to win game three. Meanwhile, DK also did their best but could only say “efforts were in vain.”

Moreover, DK still has a chance for revenge in the return leg. And ShowMaker’s performance without his “comrade” Canyon also gives DK fans more hope for a successful season ahead.
