GAM’s Victory Helps VKE Address a Key Issue at Worlds 2024
With their win against Movistar R7, GAM Esports becomes the second team after MAD Lions KOI to reach the Swiss stage of Worlds 2024. It’s safe to say that GAM’s achievement is commendable, especially as they played calmly and securely in both matches, particularly in crucial moments that decided the games. While there were some mistakes during certain phases, overall, GAM demonstrated a clear improvement compared to their previous playstyle, which often relied on reckless dives and continuous skirmishes.

However, an equally significant implication is that GAM’s victory also brings numerous benefits to Vikings Esports – the remaining VCS representative at Worlds 2024. Firstly, GAM’s win against R7 means VKE only has to face two wildcard teams on their journey to secure a spot in the Swiss stage. Next, and perhaps even more importantly for VKE, GAM reaching the Swiss stage alleviates pressure on the VKE players. Now, VCS is guaranteed at least one representative in the Swiss stage of Worlds 2024, and the VKE players have had some of the pressure to advance lifted. With this newfound mental comfort, it wouldn’t be surprising to see VKE perform well.

VCS is Wide Open for Two Representatives in the Swiss Stage of Worlds 2024
The reality is that the wildcard representatives at Worlds 2024 have performed quite impressively. First, PaiN Gaming really made PSG Talon sweat to get past them, and R7 even defeated 100 Thieves – a representative from LCS in a BO3 match. However, when R7 faced GAM, there was a palpable skill gap between the two teams. Therefore, if VKE can overcome PNG, the chances of VCS having two representatives in the Swiss stage are very high. It’s worth noting that VKE is the only team in VCS Summer 2024 that managed to push GAM to a fifth game before emerging victorious.

With the psychological burden somewhat lifted, along with opponents who are not significantly stronger than MAD, VKE stands before an unprecedented opportunity to make an impact. GAM has called, and the VCS audience hopes VKE will respond.
