In their VCS Summer 2022 debut, GAM Esports (GAM) unexpectedly “fell” to SBTC Esports (SE). Although Levi and his teammates dominated in game 2, they allowed SE to dismantle them far too easily in the remaining 2 matches. However, for GAM fans, this loss might just be an “accident,” and the reigning champions of VCS Summer 2022 will bounce back immediately.

However, while AS Esports (ASE) might be too weak to challenge GAM, Saigon Buffalo (SGB) is a team fully capable of exploiting GAM’s weaknesses just like SE did. The team that recently had the chance to “study abroad” at MSI 2022 has not been performing particularly well this Summer, but when facing GAM, they showcased a completely different face.

In both games, the players of the team nicknamed “The Buffalo Herd” displayed an incredibly bright, proactive, and highly effective counterplay. Meanwhile, the champions of VCS Spring 2022 played disjointedly, with each player operating separately and lacking the flawless execution that defined them in the past. The outcome was clear to everyone, GAM was swiftly defeated in both games, accepting their second loss in the three matches played in VCS Summer thus far.
It goes without saying that not only the Vietnamese League of Legends community (VCS) was surprised, but even GAM fans themselves could hardly accept this defeat. The yellow-clad team can certainly lose, but losing so weakly as demonstrated by the players is a very concerning issue, especially when all teams this season have clearly shown their determination. Meanwhile, the champions seem to be lagging behind.

– “We deserved to lose. Watching this match was both boring and disheartening. But the season is still long. Let’s keep trying!”
– “Honestly, the gameplay was disappointing. I just hope the team can improve and regain their form.”
– “If the performance isn’t good, let’s try to improve later. If they happen to read some negative comments, I hope the whole team won’t be too affected. Keep it up, guys!”
– “Watching GAM play today was really sad.”
Right after the match, Levi also had to post an apology to the fans for his and the team’s poor performance. However, for GAM and its fans, it is crucial to reflect on the losses and strive harder in the upcoming matches if they do not want to become former champions or, worse, lose their spot at the 2022 World Championship.
