The former LPL star shares his situation after retiring due to the heavy penalties of the tournament
Among all professional tournaments in the current League of Legends scene, there are perhaps no penalties as strict as those in the LPL. In fact, these penalties have become an “endless source of content” for the media and the community to discuss. However, if anyone thinks that the impact of penalties on players is minimal, they are mistaken. Recently, Leyan – a once-famous star of the LPL shared his personal experience with these penalties.

Specifically, the former LPL star revealed that when the tournament paused for the Lunar New Year holiday, he returned home with only 9,000 CNY in his pocket (about 31 million VND). The reason stems from the penalties he received during his playing time.
Leyan stated: “There was once a joke that I was the one paying the salaries of the entire LPL administration. At that time, I only received a salary two months a year. I was fined half a year’s salary for a bug mistake, fined three months’ salary for arguing with fans during a livestream, and fined one month’s salary for not attending training. 9,000 CNY is what I had left after two years of professional play.”

In reality, Leyan himself is not exactly known for a clean private life. He has been involved in several behind-the-scenes dramas, such as making obscene remarks during livestreams or exploiting game bugs to cheat in ranked matches.

Not only Leyan but many LPL superstars have also faced severe penalties
Before Leyan, LPL superstars like Uzi, TheShy, and JackeyLove also faced penalties from the LPL. Notably, some of the penalties had quite ridiculous reasons. For example, Uzi was fined for wearing flip-flops to the competition venue, while Tian was penalized for taking a bathroom break and “interrupting the game.”

However, there is also quite an ironic factor that despite the LPL imposing heavy penalties, this region is infamous for match-fixing – one of the gravest offenses for a professional athlete. Therefore, perhaps the LPL organizers and Riot need to implement more appropriate and effective measures in the future.
