ESPN Reporter: Cloud 9 is the Strongest Team Only Because Invictus Gaming and LPL Aren’t Competing

It’s unclear whether this reporter intentionally omitted mentioning Korean teams while only referring to Invictus Gaming.

In a strange twist, the spring season of major tournaments around the world is unfolding in ways nobody could have predicted. This has even surprised veteran esports professionals like Fionn, an ESPN reporter, who claims Cloud 9 is the strongest team in the world. This viewpoint holds some weight as Cloud 9 is the only team in the top tournaments that remains undefeated, while other top teams have all faced their share of “bitter fruits”.

ESPN Fionn: Right now, Europe is the strongest region in League of Legends, with a 12-6 victory in the EU being far more valuable than an 18-0 win in NA; it's just that Cloud 9's control over dragons/towers/gold is exceptional. By the way, I’m only referring to the current moment because these guys (animated image of Invictus Gaming) are not competing.

Now those noisy Europeans are asleep, and I can state the truth: Cloud 9 is the strongest team in the West with 0 losses, 0 destroyed mid towers, and Vulcan has 0 MVPs.

If this viewpoint had been expressed 2-3 years ago, this guy would surely have faced a barrage of criticism for mentioning the strongest region or team without mentioning Korea. However, at this moment, as South Korean teams have significantly declined compared to the past, and the LPL in China is on hold, it’s only fitting for a region with four teams tied in points like the LEC to be considered the most exciting in the world.

There are 4 teams tied in points at LEC Spring 2020, making the tournament extremely tense.

Meanwhile, Cloud 9’s impressive performance in the LCS has been a huge surprise; however, what shocked many was Team Liquid’s significant decline. While it’s true that Liquid is missing Broxah and competing with a substitute jungler is a massive disadvantage, even with a European player in their lineup, they are still performing poorly. The bot lane duo of Doublelift and CoreJJ clearly shows the fatigue of age as they struggle against younger bot lanes.

Perhaps the spring tournament of professional League of Legends is unfolding in unexpected ways. G2 Esports and Fnatic in Europe are no longer the only dominant forces, Team Liquid is sitting near the bottom of the LCS, and the LPL has been indefinitely postponed. The LCK tournament may be the most stable, with the two top-rated teams, T1 and Gen.G, sharing the top spot. However, in the past two years, South Korean teams have often failed on the international stage, making it difficult to assess their current standing.

T1 is gradually reclaiming its position in the LCK; the question is how they will perform in international tournaments.

At this point, it’s still too early to declare who the strongest team in the world is; we must wait for international tournaments where the top teams collide to truly verify who the strong one is, and which region is number one in the world. However, we still need to see how the situation in China and the LPL tournament progresses.

Invictus Gaming and Funplus Phoenix are still the top two teams in China.
