On the afternoon of May 10th, MSI 2022 officially kicked off with some thrilling matches. For instance, the clash between T1 and SGB showed that the Vietnamese representative could play evenly with top teams, at least for the first 15 minutes of the game. Therefore, SGB’s performance has brought a lot of hope to fans in Vietnam for a chance to advance in this group stage.

As for the opponent that T1 mentioned the most – G2 Esports, this team had a perfect opening day with two victories against ORD and EG. Against the team from the OCE region, G2 seemed to still hold back a bit, but when facing EG from North America, the “circus” showed no mercy and quickly devastated the opponent. Especially in the Mid Lane, Caps unexpectedly brought a champion no one anticipated, Anivia, to crush his lane opponent.

With the match being between Europe and North America, the post-match interview after G2 vs EG was of great interest to fans. And as expected, the tournament’s host mentioned that EG player Jojopyun had previously trash talked G2 after winning the LCS Spring 2022. In response, G2 Caps stated that it is quite normal for Jojopyun, being a young player, to express himself, but he did not forget to teach his opponent that: “If you want to brag, you need the skills first.”
Question: After winning the LCS, Jojopyun said he would outplay you guys. Now that G2 has just defeated EG, what do you think about this?
Caps: Actually, his trash talk is quite normal. Jojopyun is still young and has more time to prove himself. However, at the moment, his skills are still relatively low, and to trash talk or brag, one must have that first.
Indeed, after the first day of competition, one can easily see the superiority of G2 Esports over the other two opponents in the same group. They are willing to play champions outside the meta and still easily dominate EG without needing to exert too much effort. Therefore, the top position in Group C of the MSI 2022 Play-In Stage is unlikely to slip from G2 Esports’ grasp.

As for EG, this team is still too “inexperienced”, especially in the Mid Lane and ADC positions, as MSI 2022 is Jojopyun and Danny’s first international tournament. Perhaps they should focus on playing and accumulating experience instead of “bragging” only to end up “getting retribution” like in the last match.
