CvMax Fined 1 Million Won by South Korean Court Following Abuse Allegations Against Sword

Former Griffin Coach CvMax States He Is Preparing to Appeal This Penalty

According to DailyEsports, recently, the Uijeongbu District Court in South Korea approved the indictment filed by the local prosecutor’s office regarding the abuse of player Sword by former Griffin coach CvMax, who is currently the head coach of the League of Legends team DragonX.

The indictment details the abusive behavior and psychological pressure exerted on player Sword—CvMax’s former student at GRF—submitted on March 20. The court concluded that the abusive behavior was acknowledged by both parties through various forms; however, the severity of the violations did not reach a dangerous level, so a public trial would not be held. Instead, an informal hearing was conducted, resulting in an administrative fine of 1 million won (approximately 19 million VND) imposed on CvMax.

In response to this information, CvMax confirmed to DailyEsports that he has received notification from the court and is in the process of preparing an appeal. The fine of 1 million won may seem insignificant compared to CvMax’s income, but the important factor is that accepting this penalty would associate the abuse charge with CvMax’s personal record, potentially affecting his honor as a coach moving forward.

According to analyses from the South Korean gaming community, the “admissions” of CvMax’s abusive behavior towards former Griffin players were derived from press conferences and streams related to the drama at the end of 2019 and early 2020, when he was accused by Sword and Tarzan of player abuse. CvMax admitted to having pinched Chovy and yelled at Sword.

However, the DRX coach’s side completely denied Sword’s claim that CvMax verbally abused him with derogatory terms such as “trash” or “cripple,” while Chovy—the player considered to have been most severely abused by CvMax—continues to follow this coach to compete at DragonX.
