As we know, recently, VCS has been heavily criticized by the Vietnamese League of Legends community. The issue began to surface after the tournament announced the new season, but the venue remained just a… rumor. Subsequently, the situation escalated when the VCS organizers announced a series of names who would be working at the Spring 2024 tournament, yet many important figures were absent, such as the famous casting duo Hoàng Luân – Văn Tùng and female MCs Minh Nghi and Mai Dora. The situation peaked after the incident involving female MC Remind during her recent interview with BeanJ.

As we know, after MC Remind misread BeanJ’s name (as Taki) twice, the VCS community could no longer contain themselves. On many forums, posts questioning whether the young female MC is suitable for the job, as well as negative opinions about the quality of the VCS casting team, have surged like “mushrooms after rain.” Most comments acknowledge that this is the second consecutive year MC Remind has worked at VCS. However, it is not just the misreading but also her guiding style that is not really engaging enough.

Amidst the wave of opposition, many have recalled the “predecessors” of MC Remind, such as MC Minh Nghi and most recently MC Mai Dora. While MC Mai Dora spoke up to defend her younger colleague by sharing her own memories of facing similar criticism when starting out, MC Minh Nghi resolutely distanced herself from all drama. In a recent post, MC Minh Nghi half-jokingly stated: “Stop summoning me in MC topics. Let me be!”

Clearly, both MC Minh Nghi and MC Mai Dora understand the harshness of the job, especially being an MC in an environment where the interaction between those on stage and the audience is much closer and more direct than in other fields. Not to mention, both female MCs have also experienced negative feedback from the community to some extent. The recent actions of the two female MCs can be seen as both helping to calm the situation and also to protect themselves and their younger colleagues from uncomfortable situations.

Currently, discussions surrounding the quality of the MCs and casters of the tournament are still attracting the attention of the Vietnamese League of Legends fans. And perhaps, only those involved can find the best path forward for themselves.
