The amateur League of Legends scene in Vietnam has been receiving significant attention from various organizations aiming to create more opportunities for players to compete and showcase their skills. Recently, after a series of events, showmatches, and charity tournaments featuring commentators from VETV like Hoàng Luân and Mạnh An, it was the turn of “Gia Cát Dự” Lê Khôi to organize an amateur tournament for gamers.

The tournament named Mỏ Neo Championship concluded and crowned its champion on the evening of June 11. The team named SPG successfully defeated Hue Gaming to become the first champion of the “Mỏ Neo” cup.

However, this team left a negative impression after their victory when a member of the team made a trash talk remark following the final match. The Azir player from SPG typed in all chat: “tuoi ***”.

This is a very familiar story in ranked matches, but doing so in a tournament, on a stream with thousands of viewers, is a different matter.

Commentator Lê Khôi, who organized the tournament, also expressed his dissatisfaction with this action. He posted a message on his personal Facebook announcing the tournament results but also reminded everyone about the “not-so-appropriate behavior” and emphasized that even in an amateur tournament, the spirit of sportsmanship and fair play should be prioritized.

Although it was merely an amateur, friendly tournament, it is still a competition, and the organizers expect a spirit and attitude of professionalism from all participating players.

Many gamers might compare this case to DOTA 2, arguing that in Valve’s title, even professional stars have the freedom to trash talk. However, the nature of each community is different, and surely if DOTA 2’s rules were applied to League of Legends, it would lead to utter chaos.

Furthermore, even DOTA 2 does not encourage players to make personal attacks or remarks against opponents as seen here. For team SPG, this may serve as a memorable lesson for gamers, as they have made their championship title feel… less memorable due to their aforementioned comments.
