Chovy’s statement may leave many T1 fans “unhappy”
After the victory against HLE in the LCK 2025 Grand Finals, Gen.G officially became the first domestic champion of LCK after the tournament was restructured under the new format. At the same time, Gen.G will be the number one seed representing Korea in the upcoming Worlds. In the post-match interview, Chovy asserted that the opponent he wanted to face this year at Worlds 2025 is Invictus Gaming – the representative of the LPL. However, Chovy’s statement has left many T1 fans “displeased”.
Gen.G wins LCK and goes to Worlds as the number 1 seed of LCK.
The reason is that IG is T1’s opponent in the upcoming Play-ins, and if Gen.G clashes with IG, it means T1 will be eliminated, and LCK will lose a representative in Worlds 2025 before the group stage even begins. Moreover, if they lose to IG, T1 will officially become former champions after just one BO5 match. Clearly, for T1 fans, this is something no one wishes for.
Chovy asserts he wants to face IG.
However, on the contrary, some people believe that Chovy simply wants to face IG and has mentioned this before. Therefore, Chovy’s reiteration is completely normal, and perhaps this player has no intention of disrespecting T1. Furthermore, in 2019, Chovy’s GRF was defeated and eliminated by IG after the Quarter-finals at Worlds. So Chovy wanting to meet them again for “revenge” is not surprising.
But if Gen.G can clash with IG, it means T1 will be eliminated.
Chovy also needs to be cautious, especially regarding T1
If it were at another time, Chovy’s statement would be completely normal. But right now, T1 is preparing to face IG, and this statement has caused controversy as many people feared. Remember, just a few months ago, Faker was also met with criticism from many Gen.G fans just because he expressed confidence that AL could defeat Gen.G. Now, Chovy has made a statement that is somewhat sensitive related to the “great rival”; thus, negative reactions are hard to avoid.
