Following numerous issues related to ranking tiers on the Korean server, Riot Games, both globally and in South Korea, has taken a stricter stance. The first and most decisive move by Riot was to lock all Korean rank accounts that had been granted to teams worldwide, except for those in the LCK. Although there was a later relaxation, smaller regions like PCS, LJL, and especially VCS have still not been reallocated Korean rank accounts. The loss of a quality practice environment is seen as one of the key reasons why smaller regions and wildcards are increasingly falling behind the global scene.

Recently, Riot has launched a new server exclusively for teams in the APAC region (PCS, LJL, VCS) to practice in preparation for the new season. According to Raina, a player competing in LJL, this super server is called Champions Queue and is being well-received by many players. In VCS, several players have reportedly joined this server to test the 14.1 version currently being implemented there. Notable names include Sty1e, Froggy, and Sorn.

It can be said that amidst the current lack of practice facilities while the new season approaches, the new APAC super server is viewed as a timely “lifeline.” Moreover, getting accustomed to new versions early will provide teams with time to research strategies more thoroughly and develop diverse new playstyles. These are essential factors to elevate VCS compared to the recent tough times.

However, for some viewers, the APAC server may not truly offer much assistance. According to one argument, VCS might not gain as many benefits compared to other regions in the group: “It’s true that there is a new server, but the quality is definitely not on par with the previous Korean server. VCS has long surpassed LJL and is on par with PCS. Now, training at the same level doesn’t offer much benefit.”

In reality, the skill level of VCS is quite high compared to smaller regions and wildcard groups. Thus, the concerns of VCS fans are entirely justified. Nevertheless, looking at it positively, having a practice environment at this time is still a hopeful signal. And it will definitely help VCS teams a lot, especially the new faces in the upcoming VCS season.
