After the first round of matches in the Group Stage MSI 2023, the power dynamics of the regions have become quite clear. As expected, the two standout regions are still LCK and LPL, with all four representative teams claiming victory. Meanwhile, two teams from both LEC and LCS suffered nearly absolute defeats. Only G2 Esports managed to secure one win in their BO5 series against Gen.G.

However, a recent controversy has arisen with LEC/LCS players, specifically names like C9, G2, and MAD. Many fans noted that some players remained cheerful, even laughing and joking after their defeats. In particular, images of MAD players appearing calm after being devastated by T1 were shared. This sparked outrage among fans, who criticized the players harshly.

The situation escalated as many individuals used vulgar language in comments on the teams’ posts. In particular, MAD players (as the reigning LEC Spring 2023 champions) faced the heaviest criticism. Some fans called for Nisqy to retire and even targeted the families of the players. Shockingly, one of the harshest critics of Nisqy was a commentator on the co-stream channel licensed by Riot. This compelled the teams to speak out.

Recently, C9 posted a message with a sarcastic tone: “We have investigated those who spread rumors that players were laughing after their losses. As for the players, we have given them a break.” This can be seen as C9 responding to overly zealous fans demanding the firing of players who dared to smile after a defeat. Meanwhile, MAD also spoke out against the criticisms directed at their players and called on genuine fans to support the players against the wave of unreasonable criticism.

In a professional competitive environment, pressure is unavoidable. But ultimately, players are still just ordinary people. Many fans have also noted that there have been excessive reactions from a segment of the extreme community. Several individuals are concerned that this pressure may only add to the stress of the players and result in continued poor performances.
