The Former World Champion’s Sensitive Remarks
During the end-of-year transfer period in 2024, not just LCK or VCS, but LPL also witnessed many departures. For instance, JD Gaming nearly restructured their entire roster, parting ways with the Korean star duo: Kanavi – Ruler. However, the former World Champion of 2017 – Ruler recently made statements that left LPL fans extremely displeased.

“In a foreign country, there are really many difficulties. For example, language barriers, cultural differences, and dining inconveniences. When there are no matches, I hardly do anything, just stay in my room. My time there (in LPL) made me feel like I was on a secluded island. But I am still satisfied with what I have achieved. I rate myself 9.5/10. Besides, I feel relieved (to have left) rather than regretful,” Ruler stated.
Ruler’s time in LPL can be considered nearly complete. However, 2024 has indeed been quite challenging for this player as well as JDG. They ended up empty-handed in all competitions, and JDG could not participate in any international tournaments. Despite Ruler’s efforts, the talented teammates around him have all lost some form compared to their performance last season.

LPL Audience Outraged by Former World Champion’s Remarks
Under the post shared on social media Hupu, many LPL viewers expressed their outrage at Ruler’s comments. “If the food doesn’t suit you, why does he look ‘fleshy’ compared to his time in Korea?” – one comment questioned.
Another viewer bluntly stated: “I can agree with him regarding the environment, language, and culture. But talking about food as an issue is really excessive.” However, there were also many comments expressing indifference because simply “Ruler is just a foreign player; we can’t expect too much.”

However, perhaps Ruler himself has had enough experiences here. Returning to LCK seems to be a way for this player to conclude his career right at his homeland, with LPL and JDG just a memory in Ruler’s journey.
