Gen.G’s Coach Reveals the “Toughest” Opponent in LCK
After a transfer window filled with “blockbuster” deals and quite a bit of “drama”, the top teams in the LCK have finalized their rosters in preparation for the 2025 season. This also marks the beginning of the preparation phase with practice matches already underway for teams like T1, Gen.G, HLE, and more. In a recent interview with National Daily, Gen.G’s head coach, Kim, shared some intriguing insights about the team’s practice sessions. Additionally, Coach Kim revealed a surprising name that could give Gen.G headaches during their preparation.

“To be honest, DK is the team that causes the most difficulties for me when preparing to face them. It’s quite strange because DK may not be the strongest team, but they always pose significant challenges for us. Their mid-jungle duo makes me think a lot, yet there’s not much we can do. Lucid is excellent at using engage champions like Lee Sin, Vi, or Sejuani. Meanwhile, ShowMaker has an incredibly wide champion pool that we can’t ban entirely. We once tried banning all mid-lane champions, but ShowMaker just brought out LeBlanc or Twisted Fate, which complicated our plans. Facing such an opponent is incredibly challenging” – Coach Kim shared.

Gen.G’s Journey to Conquer the LCK in 2025 Will Not Be Easy
Looking back at the recent transfer window, fans can see that DK has significantly strengthened compared to last season. In addition to Lucid and ShowMaker, the return of BeryL is extremely valuable in enhancing this team’s strength. DK’s weakness over the past few years has been the lack of a shot-caller who can direct teammates effectively against top opponents. BeryL’s presence seems to address this weakness and make DK much tougher to face.

Not only DK, but other names like HLE, T1, or the notable rise of BRO also cause concern for Gen.G. This indicates that the number of direct competitors for Gen.G in the LCK has significantly increased for the upcoming 2025 season. It should be noted that Gen.G has lost its dominant position in the regional scene after missing out on the LCK Summer 2024 title. Coupled with notable developments in the transfer market, the task of conquering the LCK title in the upcoming 2025 season will be extremely challenging for Gen.G.

Fairly speaking, Ruler’s return does help Gen.G significantly improve their strength and resilience in the bot lane. However, in the context of other opponents rapidly strengthening, the chances of this team winning the LCK title are currently under considerable doubt. Perhaps the Gen.G roster, including both players and coaches, will need to put in a lot of effort in the upcoming season to maintain their status in the race for the LCK title.
